How Lel, Cheruiyot & co. are preparing on the Alpe di Siusi for the big running event.

“They run so swiftly and with such a light step that you might almost think they are just skimming over the ground.” Helga Rauch is still always surprised at the style of the Kenya marathon runners, who, last summer spent a whole month on the Alpe di Siusi training for the autumn marathon as well as for the Light Athletics World Championships in Osaka.
Helga Rauch, who is Italian ex junior cross-country champion and for years has been the ace of the Italian national team, every so often leaps at the idea of accompanying the athletes during their training. “Of course they often left me way behind,” she recalls with a smile. Despite this, Helga is really in top shape: after all, the 34-year old participates in two full marathons every year and twice was among the first to finish the New York marathon and gained excellent placing in the very difficult marathons of Berlin, Frankfurt and others.
